To sum up a conversation as rich and wide-ranging as mine with Professor Antonio Fatas is difficult; but this in itself reflects the complexity of the topic we tackled – how to get a macro view of the huge transformations happening in the world at the moment.
This is both the fragmenting and shifting socio-economic landscape and the corporate landscape, which are intrinsically connected. We talked about how certain rocks of society – notably institutions – are now being chipped at and their worth questioned. But we also talked about how there is resilience in the landscape despite this. For me, this is a time when businesses should then look to their own foundations. What are they building upon and is it resilient? Does it stand up to scrutiny, including leaders’ own moral lenses?
